Quality School Life
The staff of Connaught School work hard to create an open and welcoming school experience for children and families. Here are some programs that aim to build skills and showcase learning and talent:
1. Grit and Grace: We celebrate students every month at our Grit and Grace Award assembly on the first Monday of each month. Teachers choose one or two students each month who embody Grit and Grace.
Characteristics of Grit:
Courage: The courage to try something new or again, the courage to take risks
Conscientiousness: To be thorough, careful, thoughtful in everything you do.
Perseverance: Keep going even when things are hard
Resilience: Ability to bounce back and get through the tough or the hard
Passion: Excitement for learning
Characteristics of Grace:
Humility - knowing you are good at things without bragging, and understanding that everyone has strengths and things they are still learning.
Kindness - using your words and actions to help others feel safe, happy, and cared for.
Consideration - thinking about how your choices affect others and making choices that help everyone feel included and respected.
Respectful of self and others - taking care of yourself and treating others the way you want to be treated—using kind words, safe actions, and listening when others speak.
2. Student-Led Conferences: A student-led conference is a conference with parents led by the student. The classroom teacher's role becomes that of a facilitator. In a student-led conference, students lead parents through a discussion of their learning. Student-Led Conferences are now in place of the traditional parent-teacher interviews.
3. Art Show: In June we host an art show. Students create a specific piece of art or they choose from a piece that they made during the year. Families are encouraged to come in and vote for the piece they like the most in each class. The winners work is framed and hung in our hallway or in the office.
